Update: Expanding the Scope for Medical Equipment Services Investment

In February 2026, we published Understanding the Medical Equipment Services Landscape, which focused on independent service organizations across imaging, biomedical, laboratory, and specialty equipment, as well as adjacent parts supply and asset management models. Since then, investor interest has increased as scaled assets have come to market and others have been prepping for upcoming processes.

The limited supply of scaled imaging platforms relative to investor demand has prompted sponsors to expand their scope for medical equipment services investment. Sponsors have shown increased interest in modalities earlier in their consolidation cycle such as biomedical and laboratory equipment. At the same time, advancements in AI allow parts suppliers and asset managers to leverage their proprietary datasets more effectively, adding value to their businesses. Lastly, we are tracking emerging interest in equipment disposition and installation as investors become more creative in finding ways to own a piece of the equipment lifecycle.

This note examines how the investment opportunity in medical equipment services is broadening. We discuss growing interest in installation and disposition at either end of the equipment lifecycle, the changing value proposition of asset management, depot repair, and parts supply, and recent activity in biomedical and laboratory equipment. We also consider the operating capabilities sponsors will need to turn these opportunities into durable, scaled platforms.
